Board of Regent housing policy (Housing 3:6,
Section 1,A) as stated in the SDSM&T Undergraduate and Graduate Catalog
and referenced below.
During the first two
years from the time they were or would have been graduated from high school,
all unmarried students who enroll in courses delivered on a main campus for
six credit hours or more are required to enter into a housing agreement with
the institution unless special permission to room elsewhere is received from
the institution. Permission ordinarily shall be granted to students with
dependent children or to students who reside full time during the academic
year with parents or legal guardians. Students who have enrolled for twelve
or more credits for four (4) semesters may be exempted from this agreement
at the discretion of the institution.
If you
are planning to live off-campus during your first or second year at SDSM&T, be
sure you are exempt from this policy. To request an exemption, complete
the on-line exemption request form to start
the process.
Why??? National studies show that students who
live on-campus during their first and second year of college do better
academically and socially. They typically have better grades and are
more likely to graduate. At SDSM&T, first and second year students who
lived on campus during the past five years on average earned GPAs that were at
least 0.1 points higher than first and second year students living off-campus.
