Bedding and Pillow
We provide
you with a mattress cover or pad. Twin extra-long flat sheets will fit all
beds—you may want to wait to buy fitted sheets until you see the mattress.
Bicycles
Bike racks
are located near the residence halls. All bikes must be registered.
Registration is free and provides each bike with an identification sticker for
the bike frame—good for the entire time you reside on campus.
Register your bike on-line.
Bike locks are recommended. Bikes must be removed during the summer months
unless you are residing on campus. Bikes not removed for summer (especially
those not registered) may be donated.
Carpet
Carpet is
permitted in all dorm rooms. We suggest you wait until
arrival to get an accurate measurement. We highly recommend that students living in
Peterson install carpet as it helps on noise reduction in the building.
Computers
High-speed
Internet connection ports are in each room (1 port per person). These
connections are ready to go. Just plug in your pc to the network connection,
you will be prompted to register.
Wireless
connections are available in all three residence halls.

Extension Cords
We highly
recommend that you invest in surge protector strips for your electrical
appliances. Light duty extension cords are not meant for continuous
use—especially not for fridges, TVs, etc.—and are therefore not allowed.
Furniture
All rooms
are furnished with a bed for each resident, study chairs, desk space, closet
space and drawer space. If you bring other furniture—please no waterbeds—you
will need to ensure all furniture does not impair access to windows, doors,
plumbing access panels or heating units.
Linens
(sheets, etc)
Mattresses are all twin extra long, which are available at most department
stores and large discount stores. Additionally, linens may also be
purchased through OCM (more information here
http://www.ocm.com/tutorials/OCM Linking Guidelines - Linens.pdf ).
OCM does provide a commission to SDSM&T, which is then used to support
residence hall programming/activities.
Lofts
A bed
(mattress, bedspring and legs/frame) is provided for each student assigned to
live on-campus. Starting in Fall 2010, all students will also have a lofting
kit provided in-room. Other lofting is discouraged in Palmerton and
Connolly (due to the potential of causing damage to walls and university
furniture). With this in mind, should you choose to loft your bed, each loft must be
freestanding and follow the
guidelines available on the internet or review the Residence Life
Handbook at the beginning of school. Because the room sizes and bed frames
vary in each building it is advised that you wait to construct the loft until
after you arrive. ResLife does not provide storage. Lofting is not allowed in
the Peterson Hall (just use of the provided lofting kit) due to the types of
walls in Peterson Hall.
Curtains/Window
Coverings
We provide
light filtering curtains in each resident room. In case you want to bring your own
curtains, tension rods are also provided - just
don't lose the curtains we provided.
Parking
All
vehicles including those with free permits must have a parking permit.
Register for your permit on-line at
www.sdsmt.edu/services/facilities. This
website is available from July 1 thru August 20 to register for parking
permits. All vehicles including motorcycles must be registered to park on
campus.
Refrigerators and Microwaves
Fridge size
is limited to typical dorm size fridges - approx. 3.0 to 4.0 cubic feet (some
companies make compact fridges that are 6.0 cubic feet). These fridges are
usually 2-3 feet tall.
Microfridges, a larger size fridge with a microwave-- are available for
rent or direct buy from the
manufacturer.
Small size
microwaves are allowed in Peterson Hall. Starting in January, Connolly Hall
will also have the electrical capacity for microwaves. By Fall 2010,
Palmerton will also be on the allowed list.
Limit of
one fridge per resident and one microwave per room in dorms where they are
allowed.
Roommates
Roommates
are assigned according to the information you provided on your Residence Hall
Application. Beginning as early as March, we will send you roommate information with
your room assignment.
Telephone
Starting in the 2010-11 academic year, local phone service will no longer be
included, but will still be available as an add-on. Sign up through the
housing application. You will need to provide your own telephone. Each
room is equipped with one touch-tone modular jack (which will only be active
if student's sign up for phone service).
Tools
A limited
supply of common hand tools is available for your use in each hall. We do not
have power tools for resident use.
TVs, VCRs, Stereos, etc.
Network and
cable TV are available in all rooms, including our own TV Channel -
GrubbyVision. Keep in mind when you’re packing
your woofers that quiet hours do exist in the residence halls.
Visitation and Escort Policy
In order to
increase the safety and security of all students living on-campus, we do have
visitation and escort policies for each hall. All halls have 24 hour
visitation. All visitors must be escorted at all times by a resident of that
building. Halls are for the exclusive use of our residents and their invited
guests. Hall Councils may have elections to modify visitation hours (with
final approval by the University President).
